Tenure track position in Cancer Data Science

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Helsinki has opened a tenure-track position in Cancer Data Science for outstanding candidates. This position is part of a recruitment initiative by the iCAN Digital Precision Cancer Medicine Flagship Project (ican.fi), and includes a substantial start-up package.

The role and goals of the position

Cancer is a wide-spread disease impacting millions, and in an increasingly digitalized world, it is becoming more important to leverage digital health data and advances in genomics and other molecular profiling technologies in patient-centric cancer treatment.

Finland has special strengths internationally in this area, thereby creating a rich environment for exceptional research. This field also has real-world impact in terms of education, giving new health care professionals the prerequisites in data science to equip them with better opportunities than what is currently available to improve diagnostics and treatments.

The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing the strategic goals of the Faculty of Medicine in digitalization learning and data collection, and in the development of multidisciplinary scientific cooperation. The successful candidate will also support the iCAN Flagship Project in its goal to form an internationally recognized competence cluster in this field. iCAN aims to profile over 10 000 cases by 2026.

What would help you succeed in this call?

  • A doctoral degree and experience in relevant fields e.g., data science, computer science, statistics, or bioinformatics.
  • A proven track record conducting top-quality scientific research.
  • You are a dynamic person keen to establish a field of expertise in a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative environment.

What does the position offer?

It is an exciting tenure-track position in the field of cancer research, with a substantial start-up package as funded by the iCAN Flagship Project. Funding for a period of four years will be negotiated with the successful candidate, including funding for the salary and other costs of the candidate’s own research group. The recruitment is done at either assistant, associate, or full professor level. Salaries for such positions at the University of Helsinki can range from 4 500 to 10 600 € (demands level 7 – 10), depending on the level and experience of the candidate.
