iCAN Science Seminar with Cory Abate-Shen on From Mouse to Man: Learning about human prostate cancer by studying genetically engineered mouse models

Welcome to the iCAN Science Seminar with Cory Abate-Shen on From Mouse to Man: Learning about human prostate cancer by studying genetically engineered mouse models.

Cory Abate-Shen is the Chair of the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Therapeutics and the Robert Sonneborn Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

Abate-Shen’s group focuses on modeling metastatic prostate cancer, particularly metastasis to bone, where they have established highly penetrant genetically engineered mouse models, as well as complementary syngeneic allograft models, that faithfully recapitulate bone metastatic disease. These platforms provide powerful systems for deciphering the molecular mechanisms underlying metastatic dissemination and bone colonization.

The seminar will focus on how these complementary models are leveraged to interrogate metastatic progression and circulating tumor cells (CTCs), specifically highlighting their recent studies employing single-cell sequencing of CTCs and the generation of CTC-derived organoids to define the cellular states and molecular programs that drive dissemination and metastasis.

When: Monday 25.5.2026 at 13:30–14:30 UTC+3

Where: Biomedicum 1 (Haartmaninkatu 8, 00290 Helsinki), Lecture Hall 2. Please note that this is an on-site seminar only.

Hosts: Pekka Katajisto and Sakari Vanharanta
